General Duties:

*Working safely – it is the most important thing we do! Please always report to us immediately if you see anything unsafe.
*Wear provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times it is required.
*Have a clear understanding of each machine or piece of equipment you work on or with and of what is required for safe and efficient operation.
*To develop process windows for all new tooling and improve existing tools and processes to aid quality and productivity.
*Taking ownership of product quality – quality is part of everything we do and is the responsibility of all of us. Making scrap means the business is losing money!
*Routinely patrolling all machines that are running and making sure processes and settings are optimised so that machines run smoothly and efficiently.
*Making sure all setting staff are fully aware of basic machine settings such as mould safety and how this is optimised to improve tool life
*Ownership of Setter, Trainee Setter and Apprentice Setter training, ensuring a good basic standard is attained by all and where possible higher levels are achieved. This activity will be fully supported by senior management, you are responsible to be the driver and organiser.
*Leading support of how the shop floor looks. The Process Engineer owns PES’ 5S activities and leads all shop floor staff in this discipline – we should be ready for a customer visit at any time and always looking for ways to improve safety and appearance.
*To oversee that each tool taken out has a last-off shot attached to it for reference next time it runs or in case any tool work is required. The last off should be as-moulded and not trimmed or altered in any way. The shot should be bagged with the runner (if there is one) and secured to the tool with a cable tie.
*Own and create or update as necessary the following documents and procedures:
oDeveloping processes, process windows and process documentation, using design of experiments and systematically creating the widest possible process windows for each tool in each machine it can run. Fastest possible cycle time with good product quality must be known in every case.
oDetailed setting sheets, or PIDs (Product Introduction Documentation) where appropriate, including water diagrams to aid repeatable processing and any useful notes/pictures, ensuring records are kept up to date and the team are informed of any changes.
oProcess change logs – these must be kept up to date daily and any changes away from the established process window should be challenged and either accepted or rejected and the decision why recorded for future reference.
oWork with Quality to establish the ‘Gold sample’ in all cases
oOwn the 1st off and last off procedure and ensure they are understood by all
oOwn start-up and shut-down procedures
oWorks instructions – major contributor to understand and teach to others as required all work instructions issued, suggesting improvements to the Quality team where appropriate.
oTrouble-shooting existing jobs, supporting Setters with production issues as necessary. (E.g. 4Ms of production: Man, Machine, Material, Method)
oOwn shop floor feedback on processes and ensure our systems always reflect latest information
oOwning lifting tackle, ensuring all items are safe and fit for purpose and that annual inspections catch all equipment in use
oOwning regular machine checks and completing maintenance requests as necessary to fix any issues noted.
oDeveloping product packaging as required
oDeveloping ancillary equipment to be as effective as possible
oEnsure robots are used wherever possible
oFully support shop-floor 5s activities
oOwn SMED activities
*To always be prepared for new training and willing to learn what the business needs
*To help with the reduction of scrap by being alert and attentive to machines that are running and catching problems early
*Any other reasonable tasks that you are asked to complete – we are a small business and we must always work together as a team.
